Knowledgeable in areas related to documentation requirements for Armed Forces equipment and systems. Member of the Canadian Patrol Frigate trials team and a member of the design team for the Coastal Patrol/Minesweeper program.
TRANSPORT CANADA Coast Guard 1985-1990 - in the following positions:
Electrical/Electronics Design Specialist, (Fleet Technical Group, Ottawa) involved in the design and construction of electrical systems for Coast Guard vessels by writing specifications, evaluating contractor bids and performing inspection duties throughout construction and commissioning. Participated in contractor/CCG negotiations as marine electrical systems expert.
Project Officer (Regional Headquarters, Maritimes) administered contracts for additions and alterations to Coast Guard vessels. Provided technical expertise on electrical matters. Experienced in the operation and design features of thyristor controlled propulsion systems.
Senior Electrical Officer, managed maintenance and repair program for electrical power generation and conversion equipment on major icebreakers (Louis S. St. Laurent, Labrador) in an operational role.
Ship Safety Surveyor, appointed under the Canada Shipping Act to administer the provisions of that act; in particular, to inspect ships and offshore platforms, both operational and under construction, to insure compliance with safety regulations pertaining to electrical systems and to approve plans for the installation or modification of same. Compliance inspections involved tests and trials of a wide diversity of systems including remotely operated safety systems for control of fire and flooding, poisonous gas, plant shut- downs, stability control etc. Participated in the development of national standards (TP 127) for marine electrical systems.

Semi-submersible drilling platform S.D.S. Vinland. Modified electro- hydraulic control system, did fault tracing and repair, cable laying and routine maintenance during operations off Sable Island, Nova Scotia.

Offshore supply vessels. Performed the duties of an engineroom watchkeeper and ship's electrician aboard a 12,000 hp supply and anchor-handling tug. Was a member of the commissioning crew for "Seaforth Atlantic" built in Ulsan, Korea. Gained experience with totally electric integrated propulsion control. Serviced automated storage and handling equipment for bulk cargo.
HELMER STAUBO AND COMPANY - Electrician
Dynamically positioned drillship "Pelerin". Performed routine maintenance and assisted in trouble shooting and repair of power control systems. Became familiar with automated control for 12,000 Kw power management system and converters for 800 hp D.C. motors while conducting operations worldwide.
FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA - Ship's Electrical Officer
Performed the duties of Chief Electrical Officer aboard a hydrographic survey vessel. Provided support to scientific staff for electrical services. Maintained electrical systems on the "CSS Baffin" and its launches used for surveys.
